DON’T:
-schedule your appointment for the day after the beach. It is important to avoid sun exposure for at least 24 hours leading up to your appointment, to ensure that your skin is in the right condition to have microneedling done. Any signs of sunburn beforehand can cause unwanted pain and irritation, and may hinder the desired result.
-get Botox or fillers within 2 weeks of getting microneedling done. Not only can the Botox prevent the procedure from being effective, but the needles may effect the Botox and fillers as well. To make sure you are getting the most out of your treatments, make sure to plan at least 2 weeks between these two types of appointments.
-have any laser treatments or laser peels 3 to 4 weeks leading up to your appointment. It is important that your skin have time to heal properly before receiving microneedling. If the skin is still healing the effects of microneedling may be harmful to the skins surface, or cause more damage.
-receive a microneedling treatment if you have any signs of cold sores around that area. Not only can the needles cause redness and irritation to the sore, but they may cause it to spread to other areas of the skin.
-schedule an appointment if you have any pertaining heart, liver, or kidney conditions, without first consulting with your doctor. Although mirconeedling is beneficial to many people, individuals with these types of health conditions may be at risk during the procedure.
DO:
-drink lots of water before and after your microneedling session. If the skin is dehydrated before your procedure it may effect the results or cause the area to be less reactive. It is normal after microneedling to experience redness and peeling on the region that was worked on. If your skin doesn’t react in this way, it may be a sign that you aren’t drinking enough water.
-come in with a make-up free face that is ready to be treated. Although your esthetician will cleanse your face before the procedure, it is more beneficial to have your make up already removed so that they can go straight to treating the skin.
-stay away from direct sunlight for 7 days. After microneedling the skin is extremely sensitive and it is important to give it enough time to heal. Not only will the area be more susceptible to sunburn during this time, but it may cause damage to the skin which could produce opposite results than those desired.
-perform proper aftercare following your appointment. It is recommended not to wear make up for 24 hours after microneedling. It is also crucial to apply sunscreen to the skin when entering the sun and continuing to drink enough water during the days following. Performing proper aftercare will ensure you get the most beneficial results.
